The Academic Folkloric Ensemble Technik was founded in 1953 at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. Its members are young people whose hobby along their study and work is folklore. Novohrad Library in Lučenec originated as the Town Library, the first public library in Lučenec which was damaged by fire in 1849; it was re-established in 1851 with a gift of 5,000 publications from Augustin Kubinyi of Vidina. By 1900 the library had about 20,500 publications. In July 1951 the library became the Regional People’s Library.

The Novohrad Cultural Centre (NOS), Lučenec is a regional institution for non-professional culture and public education which seeks to create the conditions for the development of local and regional cultures, to develop public interest in artistic and cultural activities, to preserve the cultural symbols of the region and to provide cultural and educational activities for citizens of all age groups and ethnicities.
The mission of Pohronie Cultural Centre in Žiar nad Hronom is, on the basis of a voluntary interest and the creative ability of people, to contribute to the development of their personalities and to the formation of a cultural way of life within the conditions of municipalities and communities in territorial districts of Banská Štiavnica, Žarnovica and Žiar nad Hronom.
The detached workplace of Pohronie Cultural Centre in Banská Štiavnica focuses on various forms of interest and artistic activity for all age groups from kindergarten kids up to the pensioners. It co-operates with groups as well as with individuals, with disabled population groups (Slovak Blind and Partially Sighted Union, Slovak Union of Physically Disabled People etc.), it organises cultural, educational and professional events, competitions with national and foreign participants, methodological days, workshops and author and interpretation evenings (also for families).
Podpoľanie Cultural Centre is a cultural, subsidised organisation with legal personality, which was founded by Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region.Its mission is, on the basis of creative interests and abilities of interested persons, to contribute to development of people and general cultural and educational level in the region of Detva, Krupina and Zvolen districts in co-operation with local self-government and its cultural-educational establishments, as well as other institutions, associations, clubs and individuals active in the given sphere.
The Maximilian Hell Observatory and Planetarium in Žiar nad Hronom is a cultural and educational organisation which aims to spread scientific knowledge of astronomy amongst the general public, especially children and students. The Planetarium mainly serves the central Slovakia region but many of its activities have a multi-regional and national character.
Banská Bystrica Observatory is part of Maximilián Hell Observatory and Planetarium in Žiar nad Hronom. It is a cultural and educational organisation that seeks to contribute to the dissemination of scientific knowledge from the field of astronomy among the general public, especially among children and students. Activities of the Observatory in Banská Bystrica include organising events for the public (public observations, excursions in Vartovka) and for schoolchildren (competitions, lectures, discussions, astronomical days and evenings on astronomical topics).
Popularising, educational and methodical activities of KHaP focus at all age categories and types of schools. The observatory annually organizes 200 events for ten thousand visitors. In addition to the wide range of popularisation and education programs (thematic classes for schools, competitions, lectures and lecture cycles, discussions, observations, films, video projections, environmental programs, practices, meetings, seminars etc.) it organizes also a fine arts advancement competition - Universe through the Eyes of Children and a quiz competition Universe is our World).
The Education, Youth and Sports Directorate is responsible for the provision of education, youth and sports services in the municipality. It aims to provide effective learning for children and young people at pre-school, primary and secondary levels and offers a wide range of youth and sports services through a network of schools, youth and community centres, parks, clubs, sport centres and open spaces throughout the municipality.
