Pohronie Cultural Centre (POS), Žiar nad Hronom

The mission of Pohronie Cultural Centre in Žiar nad Hronom is, on the basis of a voluntary interest and the creative ability of people, to contribute to the development of their personalities and to the formation of a cultural way of life within the conditions of municipalities and communities in territorial districts of Banská Štiavnica, Žarnovica and Žiar nad Hronom. The Centre has a branch offices in Banská Štiavnica.

The Centre seeks to increase the general educational and cultural level of the people by:

- providing information and knowledge from the field of culture, science and technology

- deepening the relationship with their own state, the nation’s cultural identity, national minorities and ethnic groups and environmental care,

- educating through art and towards art, in particular by developing leisure and artistic activities, seeking, protecting, maintaining and making available folk traditions with an emphasis on traditional and folk culture, developing and utilising folk traditions in a creative way

- assisting in the prevention of anti-social phenomena and drug addictions,

- enabling people to fill their leisure time with cultural activities.

Pohronie Cultural Centre co-operates with local and regional institutions in developing cultural and educational activities in the region under their administration.
