Upper Nitra Library in Prievidza

Upper Nitra Library is a regional library that serves the districts of Prievidza and Partizánske. Together with Mikuláš Mišík Municipal Library, which was founded in 2005, it serves as a public library for the town of Prievidza. It is a regional co-ordinating, educational, methodical, bibliographic and documentation centre for libraries under its control. The library provides town and district residents with basic library-information, lending, educational, consulting, search and reprographic services, free internet access, bibliography-information services (BIS), interlibrary loan services (MVS), international interlibrary loan services (MMVS) and booking of documents in its collection which includes 100,000 books and nearly 140 periodical titles. In co-operation with Matej Hrebenda Slovak Library for the Blind, Levoča it ensures the availability of audio books for visually impaired and blind readers from around the district.
Through various forms of library works, the library meets cultural, informational, educational and relaxation needs of users. It prepares literary programs and exhibitions, programs focused on reading promotion, meetings with creators of books, lessons of info training and methodological guidance, workshops for disabled children and young people, presentations of new books and bibliographies, fun and competitive events for children and youth. Among traditional and most important events of the library there are e.g. "Literárna Prievidza" (Literary Prievidza), "Čítajme si spolu" (Let's Read Together), "Čitateľský maratón" (Readers Marathon), "Mám básničku na jazýčku" (There's a Poem on My Tongue), "Non stop v knižnici" (Non-Stop in the Library), "Píšem, píšeš, píšeme" (I Write, You Write, We Write). The library publishes a magazine for children and youth called "Náš svet" (Our World), the aim is to familiarize children and youth with library happenings. Besides that, the library annually publishes a number of regional scientific and/or subjective bibliography titles.
