Matej Hrebenda Slovak Library for the Blind - logoEstablished in 1999, the Matej Hrebenda Slovak Library for the Blind in Levoča is the national library and information centre for visually handicapped people in the Slovak Republic and for Slovaks living abroad. The Library is a state contributory organisation controlled directly by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Slovak Republic.

The Library's mission is to collect and make available to the public documents (books, textbooks, magazines) in forms which are accessible to visually handicapped people, ie in Braille, in sound on CD and cassette or in print in larger font.

The Library also methodically directs 26 departments for the blind and sighted users of public libraries throughout Slovakia, including Bratislava City Library.
