Ján Bocatius Public Library in Košice

The library has universally-focused services and library collections (over 300,000 documents) which are used by people of all age groups. One of the particularities of the library is that it works with literature and regional documents. It offers a variety of services to the public, which include lending and using of books, journals, local newspapers, CDs, DVDs and CD-ROMs. Besides lending in a central library it also offers its services to people through a network of branch offices. It serves as a methodical centre for regional libraries of Košice Self-governing Region and for libraries of Košice-okolie district. It organises cultural and educational events focused on literature and regional history. Since 1992, NOVA Photo Gallery, which regularly organises exhibitions of work by domestic and foreign photographers, has worked closely with the library. In 1992 the library adopted name of the important 17th-century humanist poet, diplomat, pedagogue, librarian and former mayor of Košice Ján Bocatius.
