Multifunctional Cultural Centre (MFKC), University Library in Bratislava
The project 'Multifunctional Cultural Centre, University Library - Rehabilitation and Revitalisation of Historical Buildings of the University Library in Bratislava' has turned the University Library into a modern library, information and cultural institution. Under this project the aim is to build a modern library as well as to create the conditions for non-library cultural activities. Reconstructed rooms provide the functions of a library and a cultural centre independently from each other.
Under the project the University Library's buildings - previously in poor condition yet of great historical and monumental value - finally got their deserved rehabilitation so that they can now serve both visitors to the library and the broader cultural public in an even more complex way. The new layout has enabled the creation of rooms where people from different fields and levels can meet, from students to researchers. Almost the entire area of the reconstructed objects is accessible barrier-free. The philosophy and new vision of the project establishes the University Library in Bratislava as one of the dominant cultural centres of the pedestrian zone in Bratislava.
