Nová Baňa is situated on the Hron River in Žarnovica District, Banská Bystrica Region, west-central Slovakia. It is surrounded by a ring of volcanic mountains (Štiavnica Mountains in the east, Pohronský Inovec in the south west and Vtáčnik in the north west).
Nová Baňa covers an area of 61.25 square kilometres and has a total population of 7,334 (2005).
