Situated on the Orava River in northern Slovakia, between the Lesser Fatra, Oravská Magura and Chočské vrchy mountain ranges, Dolný Kubín is located around 15 kilometres from Ružomberok, 45 kilometres from the Polish border and 270 kilometres from Bratislava. It lies at an altitude of 468 metres above sea level.
Dolný Kubín covers an area of 55.055 square kilometres and has a total population of 19,775 (2006).
