Situated beneath Spiš Castle, Spišské Podhradie is situated in the Spiš region of central Slovakia. The town contains a number of Renaissance merchants' houses as well as one of the region’s few remaining synagogue buildings (now disused). Close by is the ecclesiastical settlement of Spišská Kapitula.
Spišské Podhradie covers an area of 24.94 square kilometres and has a population of 3,826 (2006).
