Dunajská Streda is the most important town in the Žitný ostrov region of southern Slovakia. Nearly 80 per cent of its population are Hungarian, the highest proportion of any municipality in the country.
Dunajská Streda covers an area of 31.451 square kilometres and has a total population of 23,467 (2006).
