Located 25 kilometres north east of Bratislava in the foothills of the Malé Karpaty (Little Carpathian mountains), Modra is famous for its pottery industry and viniculture. It is also known as the town where Ľudovít Štúr lived his last years.
It covers an area of 49.624 square kilometres and has a total population of 8,704 (2005).
