Svidník is located in the Ondava Highlands of eastern Slovakia, at the confluence of Ondava and Ladomírka Rivers, 20 kilometres from the Polish border and 55 kilometres north east of Prešov.
It covers an area of 19.921 square kilometres and has a population of 12,384 (2005).
