Medzev is situated on the Bodva River in the Košice-okolie District of Košice Region in eastern Slovakia, 35 kilometres west of Košice city. The town lies at an altitude of 313 metres.
It covers an area of 31.88 square kilometres and has a total population of 3,800 (August 2009).
