Prievidza is located very near the smaller but more famous town of Bojnice in the Trenčín Region of west-central Slovakia. It is located around 60 kilometres south of Žilina, 69 kilometres east of Trenčín and 158 kilometres from Bratislava. It lies at an altitude of 280 metres above sea level
Prievidza covers an area of 43.063 square kilometres and has a population of 50,235 (31.12. 2009).
