Michalovce is situated on the Laborec River in eastern Slovakia, some 60 kilometres east of Košice and 35 kilometres west of Uzhhorod, Ukraine. It is the largest town of the Michalovce District in Košice Region.
Michalovce covers an area of 52.807 square kilometres and has a total population of 40,255 (2008).
