The Ľudovít Štúr Museum SNM in Modra was set up in 1965 as a specialised literary museum. Housed in the birthplace of politician, linguist, writer, poet, journalist and editor Ľudovít Štúr (1815-1856), the museum's main mission is to collect, document and introduce materials referring to the life and work of Štúr and his generation against a background of the national-political, social and cultural movement during the times of the Slovak national revival. The museum’s secondary field of activity is the history of the town, its ceramic works and fine art in relation to Ľudovít Štúr and the town.
