In the library system of the Slovak Republic it belongs to a network of special libraries, and is a co-ordinating and methodical workplace for museum and gallery libraries of the Slovak Republic.

The Slovak National Museum Library, Bratislava acquires, processes, provides care for and makes available to the public the library-information funds of science disciplines with content compatible with the activities of the museum.

Its library fund consists of 94,000 library units, and it subscribes to 320 titles of domestic and foreign specialised periodicals. It owns and administers almost 25,000 old printed documents, 21 of which, dating back to 16th and 17th century, have been proclaimed as historical book documents,

The Slovak National Museum Library, Bratislava is available to the professional public. It allows its users reference access to library funds in its study room and provides library-information, bibliographic, copying and scanning services as well as extensive international and domestic exchange of publications (62 countries of the world, 670 exchange partners) and an interlibrary loan service.

Since 2007 the library has worked in the KIS3G VIRTUA system and its electronic catalogue is available online.
