Originating in 1953, the Theatre and Film Cabinet SAS in its present incarnation was established in 1990. It undertakes research into the theory and history of the theatre, film, radio and television arts and sciences, collaborating with both domestic and foreign institutes and universities working in these areas. The Institute undertakes doctoral studies (PhD) in the History and Theory of the Theatre Art and is also the publisher of the Slovenské divadlo (Slovak Theatre) magazine.
