Established on 1 March 2008, the Institute for Ruthenian Language and Culture is a part of the University of Prešov. It originated as the Department of Ruthenian Language and Culture of the University's former Institute for Regional and Nationality Studies (2006-2008) and before that of the University's former Institute of Nationality Studies and Foreign Languages (1998- 2005).
The Institute is mainly a science-educational workplace aimed at the preparation and fulfilment of university projects and study programmes and other educational activities, study materials, lecture books, educational materials and other scientific- pedagogical materials concerned mainly with Ruthenian language , literature and culture.
