Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic, Žilina Regional Centre
The Žilina Regional Centre of the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic is a specialized state administration body that carries out the state supervision of the protection of monuments on the territory of the Region of Žilina. The town of Žilina is its seat.
It directs the activities of the citizens in saving, renovating, restoring and correctly using 914 immovable and 1,460 movable cultural monuments and conservation areas in 11 districts of the Region of Žilina. It adopts measures to eliminate shortcomings in the protection of monuments and provides professional and methodological assistance to 295 municipalities and 18 towns in registering their historical monuments. It also elaborates materials for territorial planning documentation of the state administration authorities and if necessary it provides for the temporary storage of movable cultural monuments. It participates in research projects targeted on cultural heritage. The Ružomberok-Vlkolínec Folk Architecture Conservation Area is noteworthy because it is has been entered in the UNESCO List of Cultural and Natural Heritage. Editorial, promotional and educational activities constitute a significant part of its work.
Two branch offices have been established in Ružomberok and Martin:
