Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic, Banská Bystrica Regional Centre
The Banská Bystrica Regional Centre of the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic is a specialised state administration body that carries out the state supervision of the protection of monuments in the territory of the Region of Banská Bystrica. The town of Banská Bystrica is its seat.
It administers 1,787 immovable and 2,765 movable cultural monuments and conservation areas in 13 districts of Banská Bystrica. It adopts measures to eliminate shortcomings in the protection of monuments and provides professional and methodological assistance to 516 municipalities and 24 towns in registering their historical monuments. It also elaborates materials for territorial planning documentation of the state administration authorities and if necessary it provides for the temporary storage of movable cultural monuments. It participates in research projects targeted on the cultural heritage of the Region of Banská Bystrica. Editorial, promotional and educational activities constitute a significant part of its work.
Three branch offices have been established in Banská Štiavnica, Kremnica and Lučenec.
