UNESCO World HeritageLocated some four kilometres from Spiš Castle, Spišské Podhradie became an important centre of craft production by the 14th century. In 1412 it was given to the Polish King in exchange for a financial loan.

The town incorporates a Renaissance Town Hall dating from 1546, Renaissance and Baroque houses of craftsmen and townsmen, a Romanesque church and a Baroque monastery.
