National Council of the Slovak Republic - Committee on Culture and Media
The National Council of the SR is the sole constitutional and legislative body of the Slovak Republic. It is the body of state authority and the status of other national bodies is derived from its primary status in the republic. The National Council of the SR discusses and approves the Constitution, constitutional statutes and other laws and supervises their adherence. By means of its legal standards it regulates the relations that arise in all spheres of the social, political and economic life of the Slovak Republic.
The NC SR comprises of 19 committees with legislative initiative. The Committee on Culture and Media is responsible for the area of culture and for the issues related to statutory undertakers. The Committee is competent to check the performance of the Programme Declaration of the Government of the SR in the area of culture and media, to discuss and make standpoints on the governmental and council draft laws, international agreements, conventions and other documents, and to co-operate with the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and other heads of national authorities and statutory institutions which fall under its supervision (Slovak Television, Slovak Radio, the News Agency of the Slovak Republic (TASR), the Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission, etc).
