Founded in January 1991, MÉDIUM Gallery is a part of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Its exhibition activities are an important part of the artistic and educational plan of the academy and comprise a mix of student and professional exhibitions. The Gallery is open to all fields of contemporary visual art, in accordance with the wide range of disciplines that the Academy offers to its students.

Student exhibitions are generally curated by the heads of Academy studios and occasionally include collaborative projects with other fine art academies. When considering projects by professional artists, the gallery board is especially interested in the thematic framework of the exhibition and its attractiveness for the visitor, whether expert or layman.

The gallery also tries to present the different approaches of foreign art academies by exhibiting the works of particular departments, studios or outcomes of international symposiums and workshops.

Exhibitions are sometimes accompanied by thematic talks or talks related to specific works by exhibiting artists.
