Yaeyama Minsah
"Min" meaning "cotton" and "sah" meaning "narrow or thin" in Chinese, Minsah is generally considered a cotton thin belt. Yaeyama Minsah is characterised by a design in which five and four splash patterns alternate with each other and its vertical stripe which looks like a centipede. It is a narrow belt of approx. 8.5cm width and 230cm length, and is a cotton fabric of warp rib weave that looks like Sanada-himo. On both sides of the belt, stripes called "Mukade moyo (centipede pattern)" are woven, and five and four Kasuri patterns are woven into it alternately.
The five and four mean eternity and each belt was a token of love woven by women for their beloved. It was often presented from a bride to the family of the bridegroom. The two vertical lines in the belt are to wish that her lover "will not turn from the path of righteousness, will never be unfaithful", and the Mukade moyo is to wish him to "visit me often".
The dyestuffs used are Indian indigo, Ryukyu indigo, Fukugi, Kuru etc.
