Bažant Pohoda Festival

Bažant Pohoda is a multicultural summer festival held every July at the airport of Trenčín, close to the border with Czech Republic. First it took place in 1997. It is one of the biggest musical events of the year in Slovakia. The festival reached a record in attendance in 2009, when every day it counted about 35.000 visitors. The festival focuses on no-mainstream music and arts, besides concerts it is theater, literature, film, visual arts, dance. There were performing for instance dancers as Fat Boy Slim, The Prodigy, Moloko, Basement Jaxx, legends as Patti Smith, Joan Baez, Cesar Evora, hiphopers The Streets, Wu Tang Clan or Dizzee Rascal, but also rock bands as Pixies, Garbage, Hives, Razorlight as well as pearls of worldmusic Värttinä, Bajofondo Tangoclub, Buraka Som Sistema or Omar Portuondo. The domestic Czecho-Slovak scene was represented by Marta Kubišová, Jaroslav Nohavica, Jana Kirschner, Meky Žbirka and Richard Müller. Traditional concerts of classical music couldn't be missing either, performers as Orchestra of the Slovak National Theatre, Hungarian State Opera Orchestra and the London Royal Choral Society were present.
