Walthamstow Central - Queens Road interchange
A new pedestrian route will link nearby Central and Queen's Road stations in Walthamstow.
The Barking - Gospel Oak Line Users Group has been pushing for a dedicated link between busy Walthamstow Central, which serves the Victoria line and WAGN's Liverpool St to Chingford line, and Walthastow Queen's Road, an underused station on the orbital Gospel Oak to Barking Line (GOBLIN).
The two stations are currently separated by a short walk along residential roads; the direct link will make this a much more obvious and slightly quicker interchange.
It is hoped that improved interchange will make journeys from stations on the Chingford branch to places such as Barking, Leyton, Tottenham and Harringay easier.
The direct link will either be via Exeter Road and Edison Close, continuing through Walthamstow Central's car park, or via a subway underneath the Chingford line to Selborne Road and thence along that road to Walthamstow Central. The latter route has been proposed by TfL, as the former route, being progressed by LB Waltham Forest, is four years overdue!
The watchdog London Travelwatch has urged Waltham Forest Council to enforce a ten year-old agreement with the developers of the housing estate adjacent to Walthamstow Queens Road station which would see a footbridge put in place between Queens Road and Central stations.
