Overground Network

A TfL branding exercise on high-frequency suburban lines to encourage turn-up-and-go usage.

In practice this really means better security, lighting and information at selected "routes" in South London which have a "turn up and go" service (here, 4 trains per hour; for comparison, minimum London Underground frequency is 4 trains per hour, except for Amersham services). TfL has agreed a minimum 4tph service Mon - Fri on the following routes. The agreement was introduced in two groups:

The project has been around as the South London Metro for some years previously. Connex also used to brand its 4tph London stations as Connex Metro.

In the long-term, TfL aspires to manage all local London rail services through its London Rail arm. It will already be managing several north London routes from 2007, and will be branding them as "London Overground". It is therefore possible (although unconfirmed) that the Overground Network branding will be phased out, to avoid confusion with the TfL-operated London Overground services.

A number of stations on the TfL-branded Overground Network are set to receive improvements using awards from TfL to local authorities. Earlsfield, Tulse Hill, Hayes, West Wickham, Eden Park & Norwood Junction will receive various improvements ranging from cycle access to lighting and security.
