Chiltern Railways Wembley depot

A new £20m depot at Wembley has been built as part of Chiltern's franchise commitment and will house its expanding fleet.

Chiltern's fleet has been expanding and part of its 20-year franchise with the SRA is to build this new depot to the east of Wembley Stadium station, on the southern side of the railway next to Sherrins Farm Open Space.

The depot now provides a stabling location for trains throughout the day and night as well as refuelling and cleaning facilities, and is able to provide for light maintenance.

It supplements Aylesbury depot which remains the main depot and will still carry out heavy maintenance. Aylesbury depot was recently extended.

The aim is to firstly improve reliability and punctuality by housing and maintaining more trains closer to Marylebone, and secondly to allow a higher frequency along Chiltern's routes by enabling two new platforms at Marylebone to be built on the site of the stabling sidings there.

The depot has a subtle design to minimise its impact on the surrounding area. Construction began in April 2004 and was completed during September 2005.
