Cross-South London rail
This proposal envisages new rail services from Dartford via Sidcup, Lewisham and Peckham to Clapham Junction.
A group of councillors from the Bexley area are currently pushing this idea, although it has been floated before. The current proposal is for a regular service from Dartford via Sidcup, New Eltham and Lewisham to Peckham Rye and hence to Clapham Junction. The councillors would also like to see such a service extended to Feltham for bus connections to Heathrow Airport.
The idea is to make journeys between different parts of South London easier by providing a direct route to reach at least Clapham Junction, avoiding the central stations.
Separate proposals for an interchange at Brockley might make this link even more useful, although the two proposals are entirely unrrelated.
Services would have to use what is currently a freight-only link from Wandsworth Road to Clapham Junction, although this link would see a regular passengers service with the second phase of the East London Line extensions.
The likely problem with this service is lack of capacity, particularly through Lewisham.
