The Contemporary Dance Association is a non governmental organisation founded in 1996 by contemporary dance students, teachers and dancers in Bratislava. It works in the field of contemporary dance, physical theatre and performing arts, aiming to contribute to an improvement in the conditions for Slovak contemporary dance, physical theatre and performing arts, by bringing together independent dancers, choreographers, teachers and other persons interested in these fields through closer communication and definition of common interests. Membership is based mainly on interest in contemporary dance, physical theatre and performing arts, and on willingness to work for an improvement of the situation and position of these artistic genres in Slovakia.
The principal aim of the Association is the support to presentation of national and international dancing scene and to create interesting dance and theatre projects. One of its founders and nowadays the principal personality of the Association is dancer and choreographer Petra Fornayová, who is also the initiator and producer of the international festival Nu Dance Fest, held every year at Bratislava’s A4 - zero space, which presents small dance projects from Slovakia and the surrounding countries.
