Furusato Densho Sogo Center

This building was originally built as a Sake factory in 1886. It is now used as a multi-purpose center for life-long learning. The treasures of the Ouchi period's culture and the works of the artist Sesshu are exhibited here. Inside the traditional storehouse, Genji Fireflies, which are a National Treasure, are hatched, then set free at the Ichinosaka river. Also, in the garden, there is a rare tea room made from an upside down sake barrel. One of the huge barrels that were once used to ferment sake now makes the walls and ceiling of the this delightful little tea room. You can see Ouchi lacquer ware being made in the new building. You can also try you hand at making your own Ouchi lacquer ware chopsticks (takes about an hour) with reservations.

Yuda Hot Springs

Yuda Hot Springs has such a long history. Its name appeared in regional literature from as early as the 13th century. Generations of the Ouchi family, which governed the Yamaguchi region in times past, trekked here to take advantage of its restorative baths. The clear alkaline water has not changed at all since those times, and neither the temperature nor volume of water has decreased. The baths of the inns and hotels are filled to the brim in this resort area, proud to offer the best hot springs in western Japan.
