Lord Ouchi founded Yamaguchi City about 630 years ago. Because Lord Ouchi loved Kyoto, the old capital city of Japan, he patterned the layout of Yamaguchi City after it. The city was called "Kyoto of the West" and competed in prestige with Kyoto. In modern Yamaguchi City, you can still see signs of that prosperity in quiet alleys. |
