The Directorate General of Human Rights and Minorities deals with issues of human rights, national minorities and ethnic groups, social affairs and issues of non-discrimination and equal opportunities for all. In addition, it co-operates with the third sector, churches, religious societies and minority organisations.
The activities of the Directorate General of Human Rights and Minorities include (i) co-operation with authorised representatives of the government, governmental bodies, non-profit non-governmental organisations and other institutions; (ii) co-operation with the European Commission and other institutions of the European Union as well as with other international organisations; (iii) functioning as the Secretariat of the Government of the Slovak Republic for National and Ethnic Minorities; (iv) involvement in the drawing up of anti-discrimination legislation; and (v) monitoring of human rights observance and the application of the principles of non-discrimination, equal opportunities and benefits of diversity.
