When You Get Sick

  • If you feel unwell and do not have the appropriate medicine, it is best to see a physician.
  • Examination hours vary at each hospital, but are generally from about 9 a.m.,with a lunch break from 12 to 2 p.m.
  • Examinations are not given at night of on Sundays, and national holidays. (Some hospitals are also closed on Thursday and/or Saturday afternoons.)
  • Should an accident or sudden illness occur at night of on a weekend or holiday, contact the doctor or medical center on-call.

Going to a hospital

  • It is necessary to take your insurance certificate and money for the examination fee when going to the hospital.
  • Choose a hospital appropriate to your illness.
  • When uncertain, go to a general hospital. After explaining symptoms at the reception desk, you will be directed to the proper place.
  • At a dental clinic, patients are seen in the order of appointment time. Other deppartments see patients in order of arrival.

At the Reception Desk

  • When visiting for the first time, please state so when you submit your insurance certificate.
  • Fill in an examination form
  • Sit and wait until you name is called.

During the examination

  • When your name is called, you will be directed to an examination room.
  • You will have to answer the doctor's questions before treatment.(Though many doctors can speak little English, it is best to go with someone who can translate.)

Common questions asked by doctors during an examination

  • What is wrong? What happened?
  • For how long have you felt this way?
  • Where does it hurt? What is the pain like?
  • What kind of illnesses have you had in the past?
  • Have you ever felt this way before?
