Slovak Folk Art Ensemble (SĽUK)

The Slovak Folk Art Ensemble (SĽUK) was founded in 1949. It is the only national professional ensemble with a nationwide scope in the field of artistic processing and interpretation of dance, music and visual folk art of Slovakia.
The original creation of SĽUK is inspired by an authentic form of Slovak folk art, which is stylized, in various stages, into an extremely impressive theatrical form. During its 62 years old history SĽUK collaborated with many important Slovak artists - among them there are composers as Eugen Suchoň, Alexander Moyzes, Tibor Andrašovan, Svetozár Stračina, Rinaldo Oláh; among choreographers it was mainly the leading personality of the ensemble, choreographer Juraj Kubánka, but also Martin Ťapák, Ervín Varga, Jaroslav Moravčík and Ján Ďurovčík. Today SĽUK gives a chance to talented young artists to express themselves, and this circumstance greatly enriches its repertoire with modern stage- and multi-genre performances. Thanks to SĽUK ensemble, the beauty of Slovak folk art and the professional performance of SĽUK artists could be admired by viewers not only in Slovakia but in more than 60 countries.
The ensemble consists of a dance group, a folk music band and a female choir. Since 1990 it resides in its own premises with a theatre hall, which were obtained by reconstruction of former stables of the Rusov mansion.
