National Centre of Culture - logoThe National Competitive Festival of Creative Choreographies is held every three years is a competitive festival of folkloric choreography which embraces everything from folklore collective to chamber choreography (up to 6 dancers) and large form (over 6 interpreted). The mission of the festival is to create opportunities for presenting choreographers´ work with a view to preserving, developing and disseminating folk culture of Slovakia.

In addition to providing the motivation for choreography production and preservation of style, local and regional character in choreography creation, the festival provides opportunities for collaboration in choreographic creation and exchange of experience between amateur folklore teams, measurement of performance standards and valuation of creative fruitfulness. It also provides the public with an opportunity to view classic folk culture from the Slovak region.

Competitive Show of Creative choreography is organised in three steps (regional and area rounds, national round), performances are judged by an expert jury. Competition categories are divided into various categories including elaborated folkloric material, presentation of authentic folkloric material in creative understanding, presentation of stylised folkloric material, and presentation of folkloric material in experimental understanding. The enunciator of the competition is the National Centre of Culture, with regional centres of culture organising the competition at lower levels.
