The Biennale of Imagination is an international contest and exhibition of children’s art creativity. Its mission is to develop children’s sensitivity and imagination through drawing, and to enable creative confrontation through the presentation of artistic expression of children from different countries.

Established in 1969, the Biennale of Imagination is the oldest international contest and exhibition of children’s art creation in Slovakia. The contest is announced in the sections of drawing, painting, graphic art, sculpture, intermedia production and computer creation. It is designed for children and young people aged up to 17 years, who compete with artworks of the past two years. The contestants' works are evaluated by an international jury in the age categories of (i) up to 6 years; (ii) 7-9 years; (iii) 10-12 years; and (iv) 13-17 years. Creative depiction of folk literature is the Biennale’s traditional theme – fairy stories, sayings, rhymes, songs, myths, folk customs, and children’s games (1991 – struggle of the good and the evil, 1996 – From the ornament to the sign, 2000 – Searching the way).

The Biennale of Imagination is held every even year in Martin. Since 1987 the Turiec Gallery has been the main organiser.
