Transportation in Yamaguchi
Public transportaion in and around Yamaguchi City consists of the JR train line and the public bus system.
How to use the bus
- Wait at a bus stop on the side of the street of the direction of travel.
- When a bus arrives, check the final destination of each bus displayed in kanji in the front window. If the bus has two doors, board from the rear door and take a ticket from the machine just inside the door.
- A ticket does not come out at the first stop.
- An announcement for each stop will be made.
- When the annoncement is made for your destination, press the button next to the window to request the driver to stop.
- Compare the number on the broarding ticket to the fare board at the front of the bus, and pay by dropping the exact amount in change into the machine next tothe driver.
- A change machine is usually available to change thousand-yen bills, but change for five and ten thousand yen bills is not always available (ask the driver). Please try to pay with exact change.
How to use the train
- The Yamaguchi Line of the JR train system runs from Ogori to Masuda City (inShimane Prefecture), with roughly 40 trains per day.
- There are 7 stops in Yamaguchi City (Otoshi, Yabara, Yuda Onsen, Yamaguchi, Kami-Yamaguchi, Miyano, and Niho).
- Tickets should be bought before boarding the train, and are available from machines or from ticket agents located in each station.
(Warning : Stations marked with a box are unmanned stations, with neither a ticket agent or a ticket machine. Please take a ticket from the machine inside thetrain and pay the conductor before deboarding.
Bus and Train Schedules
- JR Bus and train schedules are available free of charge at Yamaguchi Station and Yuda Onsen Station.
- There are some other bus lines available in the city. Bocho Bus and community bus schedules are obtained at City Hall.
