Installing a new telephoe:

Telephones are available from discount shops, electronics stores, or NTT West Japan (prices range from 3,000-60,000 yen). In order to use a telephone, you must obtain a telephone line in one of the three following ways:

Applying for telephone service at NTT West Japan (Nippon Telephone and Telegragh):

Applications for a telephone line and service can be made at the Yamaguchi office of NTT West Japan Things needed to purchase a telephone line from NTT West Japan:

• Driver's license or Foreign Resident Registration Card
• Installation and telephone line fee-75,600 yen (tax included)
• Contract fee-840 yen (tax included)
  (An installation fee is also necessary, but is payable after installation)

Mobile Phone
Recently many people use mobile phones they are very convenient, especially forpeople that are often not at home.
The cost of telephones, the basic charge, the dail charge and the area served vary depending on the company.　So please check these details at the shop, beforebuying.

Telephone Bill

In addition to charges for local and long distance calls, there is also a standard service charge, levied regardless of actual usage. Other charges may be inucrred for specially contracted NTT services such as call waiting, etc.
Telphone bills come by mail each month from NTT, and can be paid at many bank, post office or NTT West Japan office, or through direct debit service.
