Tramlink to Streatham & Purley
A north-south route from Purley via Croydon to Streatham is being considered for Tramlink.
The route would probably run mainly along the A23 London Road, from Purley Cross to Waddon, onto the central loop and out from West Croydon to Thornton Heath Pond, then up the road to Norbury and Streatham.
The Mayor has also expressed a desire for the Streatham branch to continue to Brixton (where it would meet Cross River Transit), but this is not currently being considered by TfL.
As well as a Brixton extension, future aspirations include a further extension from Purley to Coulsdon..
Two separately-considered proposals include extensions to Sutton and Tooting, and a short extension to Crystal Palace.
A survey carried out by the Croydon Guardian says that 80% of respondents are in favour of extensions to the Tramlink system, with the most popular of the proposed extensions being a new line between Purley, Croydon and Streatham.
Ken Livingstone has given a positive sign that Croydon Tramlink may be extended to Crystal Palace by indicating to the Association of London Government that funding for the extension may be available. A decision from TfL is expected in October.
