Extra skin

I have extra skin that hangs out of my vagina and it sometimes hurts ... Can I get it cut off? There isn't really any feeling at the end.

Q.
I was wondering: I have extra skin that hangs out of my vagina and it sometimes hurts, like when I get out of the shower or when I am with my boyfriend if he moves it the wrong way. I talked to a doctor about it and they said that it was fine, that it's just how my body is. Can I get it cut off? There isn't really any feeling at the end. Thank you.

The extra skin you are referring to as hanging out side of your vagina is known as the labia minora. It is perfectly normal for the labia minor to be visible on the outside of the vagina for many females.

There is a procedure called a labiaplasty that can trim the inner lips of the labia minora under a general anasthetic. The procedure can be costly and you would need to find a gynaecologist who is trained to perform the procedure.

It is possible that the results from a labiaplasty may not look completely natural. There is a recovery period after the procedure as it is likely to cause pain and swelling. This procedure also carries a risk of haemorrhage and infection. If you feel strongly about having a labiaplasty then I would recommend you ask you GP for a referral to a gynaecologist. A gynaecologists is a surgeon with expertise in female reproductive health. They will be able to give you more information about labiplasty.
